Rapid City Arena Cross

JANUARY 10th, 2009

Jace and Brayden go new dirt bikes this year. Brett thought they needed a new one because KTM changed their mini's for '09. They are completely different than their other ones. They look like the big KTM's and have more power. Jace already got his new one, but Brayden's hasn't come in yet. He's bummed! Hopefully it will be here for the next race.

This is Jace on his new bike. He took it out in practice and it was sooo not broke in! This was really the first time that he had ever rode it because when he got it there was too much snow to go and ride it so he just took it up the street a couple of times. After practice, Brett told him that he had to race his old bike. Jace was ok with that!

This is Brayden in practice. Still on his old bike for now. Oh well. His will be here soon. Then we have to pay for it! YUCK!!
This is 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the Pee Wee Open class. Jace got beat BARELY!!
NEXT TIME!!

Bridger wanted to jump in with these guys too! Brayden got 1st in the Pee Wee 4-6.

Bridger holding up Jace's 7th place trophy in the 65 7-9 class. He was in 4th and then ran into a bale and lost some positions. But he rode awesome!!

We race again on Valentine's Day!

Winter Fishing

Our boys love to go fishing. When they are not racing or riding their dirt bikes they are fishing. So they were bummed out when the ponds started to freeze. We told them that they could go ice fishing and they got really excited and wanted to go! So Brett and his friend Shane took the boys fishing at Osage Pond. Luckily, part of the pond was not frozen and they caught a bunch of bass. BIG BASS!

This is Shane and the boys with their catch of the day!

Bridger holding Shane's BIG BASS! (it was 5 pounds)

Brayden and Shane's bass.

This is Brayden's big bass that he caught all by himself!

They had fun fishing and have gone back many times. But they can't wait until Keyhole fishing. It's the best!

Jace's Record Bubble

We were on our way to a race in Rapid City and Jace got bored. It's not usually a good thing when Jace gets bored. (He usually fights with his brothers.) But this time he tried to see how big of a bubble he could blow with his gum. I am not really sure how many pieces of gum he had in his mouth, but I know there was a lot! He told me three, but I think about 6!

I wish I would have gotten a picture of it when it popped, but I'm sure you could imagine! He kept trying to get it bigger than this one, but all his other bubbles were a lot smaller. I'm just glad that he was entertaining himself!

Awards Banquet

The SDMA had their end of the year awards/points banquet in Rapid City, SD. The boys got their end of the year points trophies. Their trophies this year were plaques with their names and pictures. The boys love them, but would have liked the huge ones instead :) Brayden ended up getting 5th in Pee Wee Open points and 2nd in Pee Wee 4-6 points. Jace got 3rd in Pee Wee Open points (he would have gotten 2nd if his bike didn't break down in Belle).

Brayden with his Pee Wee Open trophy.

Brayden and 4th place, Nathan.

Jace and his 3rd place trophy.
Top 5 in Pee Wee Open.
Top 5 in Pee Wee 4-6. Brayden got 2nd. Brayden and Parker holding up their trophies.

The banquet was a blast. Just with that we could have stayed in the motel with everyone else, but we had to go home so Brett could finish our track. Oh well. Maybe next year!

New Track

Brett added on to the boys' track last weekend. Is was in much need of getting bigger. The boys were getting bored with the old one so Brett put some pretty big jumps in the new part of the track. He didn't think they'd be doing the jumps the first day they rode! I guess he was wrong!

So I guess Brett needs to build them bigger! My kids are CRAZY!!

Belle Fourche, SD

We had a winning weekend!! Jace won both his motos in the Pee Wee Open Class and Brayden won both his motos in the Pee Wee 4-6 class! It was an exciting weekend!
This is Jace doing tricks while going across the finish line.
Brayden ready to race.

Jace on his 65. He is the 3rd one.

We had Hermosa make up motos after all the Belle motos were finished and Brayden won his and Jace had bike problems. Brett had to push him across the finish line so he could get some points. It was a bummer. He would have won that race too!

MY TURN!!

On Sunday we had a race in Belle Fourche, SD. When I say WE I really mean WE! This weekend was the Mother's Race! Since I have NEVER ridden a dirt bike before I practiced a little on Jace's 65 the week before and I also had my very first wreck. Brayden thought that it would be funny and swerve in front of me with the 4 wheeler. My first reaction was PULL THE BRAKE or I was going to hit him!! Instead of pushing down the foot brake(back brake) I pulled the front brake!! I went sailing over the handlebars and to the ground I went. The ground came in very slow motion and I put my arms out to break my fall and landed on my hands and knees and rolled. I heard Jace yell, "DAD, Mom wrecked" and he and Mattison came running over to me. They found me lying on the ground cracking up laughing. Mattison though that I was crying, but I was laughing so hard I had tears coming out of my eyes. The first thing Jace said was, "Mom you're not supposed to put your arms out to catch yourself. You are supposed to tuck and roll!" So I guess it is a good thing I didn't break anything. Brayden felt really bad and had a little lecture from his dad.
That was my last day of practice before the race. Brett told me that I had a name to uphold so I'd better go :) YEAH RIGHT!!

So here is the race!
We just drew for our gate pick.
I have my gate pick on my helmet.
Here are some of the Moms. There were 11 that raced.
Lining up at the gate.
Racing. We had to do two laps. The first lap was a race and then the second lap we had to stop at 5 flaggers to get cards. The best 5 card poker hand won.
Some of the ruts were like a foot deep! I can't believe how fast my boys go through this stuff! They would have lapped me twice before I got finished!
Jace is telling me to give it gas.I look very uncomfortable!
Finish line. I MADE IT!! I didn't even wreck, I screamed down a couple of the huge hills, but other than that I was good.
I ended up getting 9th place in the race and 2nd in the poker run. I thought I did good. Being it was only my 4th time ever on a dirt bike! I'll do better next year.
